Acology Inc (OTCMKTS:ACOL) has been good to shareholders this year. The company gained strength in the wake of the recreational cannabis legalization ballots at the end of last year, but only really started to run as 2017 came around. Acology traded for $0.004 a piece on January 3. By February 1, the company went for $0.05 a piece – a 2400% run in a 30-day period.Since then, Acology has settled in to trade in and around the current range of $0.02-03 a share, but there's a major catalyst on the cards that could get this one running back up towards the early February highs, and beyond, near term. Here's what's important. For those new to the company, Acology is a cannabis play with a sort of dual focus. The company sells equipment relating to the growth and recreational cannabis space through one arm, and for hospital and palliative care through another. It's just built out a fresh sales force at its retail location, which is increasing from 6,000 sq. ft. to 13,000 sq. ft over the next few months, and this sales team is set to double in size as the retail footprint expansion takes form.As far as we're concerned, Acology's golden ticket is an asset called the Medtainer. We've noted in the past that it's the asset that the company should be focusing on as it pushes to expand in both the medical and the recreational spaces, and recent communication from company management suggests that it's doing just that. The product started off as a pill grinder. Think standard orange pill dispensary container, but with a grinding function built into the bottom. A pepper mill for pills, if you like. Subsequent to bringing this device to market, the company realized it would be perfect for storing cannabis plant, and would also serve as a grinder device (which many cannabis consumers use in the preparation of their cannabis for consumption).Management pivoted focus to accommodate this potential, and there are now a host of different designs that allow marketing to recreational and medical users, selling through this front facing sales page. So, that's the operations. What's the catalyst?Well, earlier on this year, management put out a release detailing the company's focus on the Canadian recreational market. Acology already generates revenues from the medical space in Canada, but with the potential for recreational cannabis not too far away (back then) in the nation, so called 'high-level' discussions at Acology had resulted in the kicking off of a strategy to capture some of the recreational market as and when it materializes. In it's latest release, Acology management has reinforced this the company's focus on the execution of said strategy. Why is this important now?Because Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau is about to start pushing a legalization bill through the necessary channels, reportedly within the next few weeks. If reports are to be believed, this bill should see cannabis legal in Canada by April (a key month in cannabis culture) 2018.Many reading will know what happened in the run up to cannabis legalization ballots in the US last year. Many likely profited considerably from the action. As the same scenario heats up in Canada, and as Trudeau kicks off the process in the coming weeks, markets are going to be looking for companies that offer exposure to the Canadian recreational market in anticipation of similar market activity.Acology has spent the last six months positioning itself as one such company. The company has a great product, and management is smart enough to have recognized it as a core focus, and now to have spent time positioning the company to take advantage of a Canadian green light. And sure, Acology could continue to expand on smart management for a long time going forward. Right now, however, and for the next few quarters, it's all about positioning ahead of a Canadian recreational development, and this one looks just right. We will be updating our subscribers as soon as we know more.
