Three Great Reasons To Get A Credit Card in 2020

What are the three things you never leave home without? Wallet. Phone. Keys.

It’s universally accepted BUT these three essential items can actually be quite contentious. We’ve all got our own debates about that the best phone is and people are fiercely committed to their cause be it Apple or Android.  And of course, we’ve all been guilty of locking ourselves out and misplacing our keys (probably on more than one occasion.) However, on the wallet front, there’s very little debate about what your wallet should contain. ID, credit card, maybe a rewards card or two and you’re sorted.

It’s pretty much accepted these days that most of us would have a credit card. They’re reliable, they help you build credit and they’ll guarantee you funds in an emergency. But, if you haven’t yet taken the plunge, here are three reasons you may not have considered that will convince you to get a credit card in 2020.

Make online purchases with ease

Online shopping has become increasingly common. It’s ‘open’ 24 hours a day, often boasting online exclusives and the fact that it can help you complete an errand while sitting on your couch are just three things that have helped make online shopping the preferred mode of shopping for many of us.

However, in 2020 with the coronavirus pandemic, online purchasing has gone from something that was merely convenient to totally essential. Needing to stay at home whenever possible and avoid highly frequented places such as grocery stores has sent people across the globe to online versions of their favourite stores. More or less this current climate has turned our credit cards and our ability to make online purchases into a lifeline that has connected us to the rest of the world and kept things running smoothly in our homes. As anyone could tell you, in this scary and unprecedented times anything that reminds us of the way things used to be has been a huge comfort, so being able to stay safely at home and order your kids favourite breakfast cereal and have it arrive the next day has been a true blessing.

Earn rewards

Oftentimes credit cards can help you earn exclusive rewards or frequent flyer points. Whilst we might not be able to do much travelling now, many of us are dreaming about that first vacation we’ll take after the pandemic has passed and it is safe to travel again.

Where will you go? A tropical beach to help you relax and forget about the rough times you’ve been through? Maybe a hustling, bustling city hot spot where you can cram in as much social interaction as possible. Perhaps a European city with an ancient past to remind you that we’re all just a small part of a truly epic (and long) human history. No matter what sort of vacation you’re dreaming of in your future, your credit card rewards and frequent flyer points might help you score an upgrade, cheaper accommodation or even entirely free flights.

Travel between countries and currencies with ease

When you finally do get to take that trip you’ve been dreaming of taking, you’ll be able to travel between countries and currencies with ease using your credit card. When you’re choosing a credit card make sure that you ask about how your card will perform overseas. When you’re travelling between countries with different currencies it is much easier to keep payments on your credit card rather than taking wads of cash out and trying to find a physical currency exchange points. Not to mention how spending on holidays tends to get away from you – having a record of your purchases on your credit card helps you to keep track of how much you’re spending and how you’re spending it (hello 13€ cocktails in Paris and 4 pizzas a day in Naples)!

So now that you’ve decided to take the plunge and get a credit card this year, what do you need to do next? Research the different types of credit cards to find out which card is best suited to you and your financial needs, you can learn more about the different types of credit cards. After you’ve done that, then all you need to do is call your bank and then start spending!
