The one thing that is hard to dispute is that scientific research is going to have a massive impact on the future of legal marijuana industry. Weed Inc (OTCMKTS:BUDZ) is positioning itself as a powerhouse in marijuana research and innovation. In this piece, we examine the steps that BUDZ has taken to achieve its goal of creating scientifically-validated products for the medical cannabis market. But before we get into the details, take a look at the company’s share price action. BUDZ Daily ChartBusinessFor the sake of our readers who are not familiar with BUDZ, here’s a brief profile of the company.BUDZ is an American company with a global footprint. The company is headquartered in Tucson, Arizona. BUDZ was founded in 1999 and it was formerly known as United Mines, Inc. before it rebranded to WEED, Inc in 2015. The rebranding saw BUDZ shift gears from being primarily a miner of precious metals to a holding company with a multifaceted approach to the burgeoning legal marijuana industry.According to researchers at investment bank Cowen and Co, cannabis industry could be worth more than $50 billion by 2026. This is the revenue opportunity that BUDZ is pursuing. BUDZ operates through wholly-owned subsidiaries, one of which is Sangre AT, LLC (Sangre AgroTech).Sangre AgroTech is a plant genomic and breeding unit of BUDZ that boasts a team of world-renowned scientists. The multidiscipline researchers are focused on, among others, developing cannabis plants with traits desired by the medical community. These may include plants with higher yields and higher resistance to drought and pests. The ultimate goal of Sangre AgroTech is to develop scientifically-validated products that fit the needs of medicinal cannabis market. On July 27, BUDZ published a press release in which it stated that it has acquired a property in La Veta town, Colorado, to host the cannabis genomic research facility of Sangre AgroTech. As such, the La Veta facility will become the new home for Sangre Bioscience Center.Sangre AgroTech is underway with a genomic study that will run for five years and cost more than $15 million to complete a global genomic classification of the Cannabis plant genus. The acquisition of the facility in La Veta for Sangre AgroTech has brought BUDZ a step closer to the future it is pursuing. Here’s what the company’s CEO, Glenn E. Martin, commented about the purchase of the La Veta property.

"The purchase of the Le Veta property is an important step to allow Sangre AgroTech to have a state-of-the-art facility to conduct its Cannabis genomic research and is a building block for WEED's larger, global strategy of creating a vertically-integrated cannabis business.”

SourceAbout the Le Veta propertyThe property that BUDZ acquired in Le Veta for Sangre AgroTech’s research operations includes a 10,000+ sq. ft. building that will host the genomic research facility. The property also includes 4,000+ sq. ft. building that will be used for activities related to plant product analytics and plant product extraction. The property also consists of a 3,500 sq. ft. corporate office center. The acquisition of the Le Veta property provides Sangre AgroTech with the opportunity to expand its research work by constructing additional laboratories and cloning facilities.Confidence in BUDZ’s prospectsA look at BUDZ’s financials may not reveal much strength in the company, especially considering that it is still operating in losses and will need to raise additional capital to partly fund the acquisition of the Le Veta property. But this doesn’t mean that there is no opportunity to profit from holding the stock. You just have to look at how the transaction for the purchase of the Le Veta property was structured for clues on how the world views BUDZ’s prospects.BUDZ agreed to pay $1.0 million for the purchase of the Le Veta property. For a portion of the purchase price, the seller of the property agreed to receive BUDZ stock as payment. This demonstrates the confidence in the seller that the stock of BUDZ will appreciate.Furthermore, La Veta town is hoping for an economic boost as BUDZ expands its operations there. Doug Brgoch, the Mayor of La Veta, made this comment.

“The locating of the company to La Veta, I believe, will mean a great boost for the town's economy and financial stability for our municipal government. The local school district will benefit through increased taxes, and Huerfano County will also feel a positive impact. This enterprise is exactly what I hoped would come to our town. I can't wait to see what evolves."

SourceConclusionAlthough BUDZ is currently not generating profits, it is hard not to see the bright prospects in its research and innovation work for medicinal cannabis market. A lot of scientific findings have already shown evidence that cannabis can provide relief for a wide range of diseases with unmet medical need currently.
